It is our pleasure to have the opportunity to provide your refuse handling and recycling services. In an effort to best serve your needs, please refer to the following important information.
Mondays: Porter Cove subdivision, north side of Highway 20 and all addresses north of 20.
Fridays: South side of Highway 20 and all addresses south of 20 except Porter Cove Subdivision.
Recycling will be collected every other week on the same day as refuse.
Porter Beach recycling begins Monday, January 2, 2006.
Other Monday recycling routes begin January 9, 2006.
Friday recycling routes begin January 13, 2006.
Our recycling service provider, Regional Industries LLC, can recycle the following items:
- Plastic containers marked with a #1 - #7
- Glass bottles
- Office paper
- Aluminum, steel, tin and bi-metal cans
- Cardboard
- Phone books
- Newsprint
- Junk mail
- Mixed residential paper
Regional Industries, LLC CANNOT recycle the following items:
- Window glass
- Styrofoam
- Batteries
- Large scrap metal
- Construction debris
- Household hazardous waste
- Hardcover Books
Regional Industries observes the following six holidays if they occur on weekdays:
- News Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
If these holidays fall on weekdays, collection will be one day behind schedule for the remainder of the week.
In 2006, the pick up schedule for these holidays is as follows:
- New Year's Day: No change
- Memorial Day: Monday routes collected Tuesday, May 30; Friday routes collected Saturday, June 3
- Independence Day: Friday routes collected Saturday, July 8
- Labor Day: Monday routes collected Tuesday, September 5; Friday routes collected Saturday, September 9
- Thanksgiving Day: Monday routes - No change; Friday routes collected on Saturday, November 25
- Christmas Day: Monday routes collected Tuesday, December 26; Friday routes collected Saturday, December 30
For Large Items such as couches and household appliances, please call 219-465-5997 to arrange for a special pickup. Generally, these items will be removed within two business days of your call.
For items containing Freon, such as air conditioning units, freezers and refrigerators, there is a Freon evacuation fee of $30 per item.
