POSITION TITLE: Seasonal Laborer (Season is May 15, 2024 to October 12, 2024)                      

DEPARTMENT: Town of Porter Parks

PAY SCALE: $15.00-20.00/hour – no additional benefits

HOURS: 10 to 30 hours per week as scheduled. Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work some evenings, holidays, and several weekends.

OBJECTIVE: To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance and/or repair of parks and related facilities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Director of Parks. May receive technical and functional supervision from Trails, Parks & Facilities Specialist. Does not supervise any employees. Regularly works independently with minimal or no supervision.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This is a non-supervisory position engaged in construction, repair, or maintenance of Town parks and facilities. Duties include operation of various types of heavy equipment, and facilitating directives for the care of Town parks and facilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

- Clean the Community Center, Park Shelters, and Gazebo prior to, or following rentals;

- Operate mowers, tractors, vehicles and other equipment;

- Utilize a variety of hand and power tools in park landscape maintenance work;

- Plant and trim trees, shrubs, and other plants;

- Operate a weed eater, mower and loader or other equipment as necessary;

- Water, mow, weed and fertilize lawns;

- Perform manual labor including lifting heavy weights, stooping, bending and twisting;

- Assist in the set-up, tear-down, and implementation of special events.

- Perform other similar duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of uses and purposes of general construction tools and equipment; safe work practices. Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities; perform heavy manual labor; learn to operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work some evenings, holidays, and several weekends.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High school graduation or its equivalent – experience in mowing/landscaping desired.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Valid Indiana motor vehicle operator’s license.
