Clerk-Treasurer

The Clerk-Treasurer’s office is the financial and record keeping hub of the Town.  In Indiana, the Clerk-Treasurer is elected for a four-year term of office.  The office is responsible for many duties including the collection and disbursement of funds, the administration of the accounting system, preparing budget and financial statements, investment management, processing payroll, utility billing, and issuing licenses and permits. The Clerk-Treasurer also serves as Clerk to the Town Council, and keeps records of proceedings, maintains ordinances, resolutions, and other records as required by law.

Corinne Peffers began serving as Clerk-Treasurer in January 2024.  She is a Porter native, and has lived in Porter for nearly four decades.  She is a member of the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.  She is an Indiana Accredited Municipal Clerk, having earned accreditation in 2022, and previously served as Deputy Clerk in Burns Harbor.
